The pericardium is an accessory organ system, located within the chest to act as a buffer to protect the heart, physically and psychologically. It regulates the circulation of blood in and out of the heart.
In the Five Element Theory of Chinese Medicine, the pericardium is associated with the Fire element and is the emotional protector that protects the heart from the shock of emotional disturbances like personal attacks, breakups, divorce, betrayal, and abuse. A healthy pericardium, also known as the "Heart Protector" is knowing when a person is loving and supportive, as well as sensing when someone poses harm, danger, and hurt. It allows the heart to express joy. When the Yin organ of the pericardium meridian is out of balance, love and joy disappear which allows sadness and fear to rise, losing our spiritual connection, becoming vulnerable, easily hurt, and resulting in closing to love and opening to harm.
The therapeutic approach focuses on nourishing the pericardium meridian in Summer or during 7 - 9pm, or if there is an imbalance mentioned above.
Pericardium energy peaks at 7pm - 9pm, which is when the pericardium meridian is on duty. This is the time for:
△ light reading
△ self-love and massage
△ cuddling/sex
△ light stretching
Practices to nourish your pericardium Qi: As the Heart Protector is like a guardian for the heart that provides a guarded barrier between our sensitive feelings and vulnerabilities and the outside world. By maintaining an open heart that allows connection with others at times and manages appropriate boundaries at other times.
The key to nurturing your pericardium Qi is to have a smooth flow of energy in the pericardium meridian and the suggested practices that I created this month in the Online Healing Studio is specifically to help Yang Sheng for your pericardium meridian.
